Sales Taxes and the Canadian GST

Sun Hosting has been successfully using the PayPal payment gateway since 2002. PayPal is owned by eBay, a multi billion dollar public company, and today represents one of the safest and fastest methods of buying and paying for services online.

PayPal is used today by a great majority of Internet merchants, eCommerce websites and is used by hundreds of thousand of people everyday, and explains why it has been so successful over the years.

PayPal accepts all major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

As of January 1, 2008, the Canadian GST (Goods and Services Tax) has been lowered from 6 percent to 5 percent. Sun Hosting is a Canadian Web hosting provider and has to collect the GST from Canadian residents and Canadian companies. If you are a company or individual residing or operating outside of Canada, then you don't have any GST or provincial sales taxes to pay at all, and this page probably won't be of any interest to you.

For Canadian companies and Canadian individuals

As good and dependable as PayPal is, it currently dosen't offer a field where we can add the Canadian GST in the calculation of applicable taxes. Because of that, if for example you are a Canadian company operating in British-Columbia and that you're buying one of our hosting plans, you will see a provincial sales tax of 5 percent added to the cost of your hosting. Because of what is explained in this paragraph, this does NOT refer to your provincial sales tax, but instead to the Canadian GST only. The same is true if you are residing or operating in any other Canadian province, except Quebec.

Since we are based and operating in Quebec, companies and individuals residing or operating outside of Quebec don't have to pay the Quebec provincial sales tax, but Quebec companies or Quebec individuals have to pay it, and the 7.5 percent QST is added on top of the 5 percent GST, as required by Revenu Quebec.
